Welcome

Welcome to the web pages of the Nanotech West Laboratory of The Ohio State University.

Located on West Campus, Nanotech West is the largest micro- and nanotechnology user facility at OSU, and also hosts a large variety of projects from other academic institutions, industry, and not-for-profit organizations across the US. Nanotech West is home to, and supported in part by, major research programs at Ohio State. These include:

- The NSF-sponsored Nanotechnology Science and Engineering Center for Affordable Nanoengineering of Polymeric Biomedical Devices.

- The Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization, or PVIC.

- The OSU Institute for Materials Research. Nanotech West is an IMR-Affiliated Laboratory.

- The Wright Center for Multifunctional Polymer Nanomaterials and Devices.

The past year has been an exceptionally exciting one at Nanotech West. Over 250 users now have electronic key access to our laboratory spaces. PVIC has resulted in major capital acquisitions for Nanotech West, including a new field-emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), the first of its model type at a US customer site; a leading-edge atomic layer deposition (ALD) tool; and the order of a metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) tool that will arrive at NTW in January 2009. These, and other, capital and staff investments have also resulted in the relocation of the OSU Leica / Vistec EBPG-5000 electron beam lithography tool to Nanotech West in the Spring of 2008, and that installation is now serving numerous users and projects from Bay 1 of our 5,000 square foot class 100 cleanrooms. Our 4,000 square foot Biohybrid Laboratory continues to be a tremendously vibrant space for a large variety of bioMEMS and related research.

While our equipment list is undoubtedly the envy of many, our people and our processes are the core strength of Nanotech West. Our staff brings years of industrial experience and innovation to problems ranging from the design of nanofabrication full-flow processes to facility issues, and our users continue to develop - and share - new solutions to research and development projects ranging from MEMS/NEMS, electrooptics, electronics, photovoltaics, advanced materials, and the fabrication of micro- and nanostructures for research in physics and chemistry.
